The start-up “Dracula Technologies” wins the energy transition category award supported by Air Liquide at the Hello Tomorrow Challenge 2017

On October 27, the Hello Tomorrow Summit culminated with the announcement of the Hello Tomorrow Challenge winners. This international competition is played out by scientific and deep-tech* startups. Dracula Technologies won the  ‘Energy Transition’ category award supported by Air Liquide.

The Hello Tomorrow Summit is an event for deep-tech startups that also hosts the Hello Tomorrow Challenge. Dracula Technologies, with its groundbreaking energy solutions for connected devices, was announced on the night as winner of the ‘Energy Transition’ category supported by Air Liquide. Eight finalists were shortlisted for this award out of 3,000 projects submitted. The Dracula Technologies solution addresses the key issue of powering the 50 billion connected devices1 expected to be in use worldwide by 2020.

This young seed has developed the LAYER® process that traps ambient light indoors or outdoors and converts it to energy. This solution allows the powered device to run continuously, at the same time as providing an easier power supply system.

Air Liquide teams worked alongside Hello Tomorrow to score the finalist startups on the basis of technological innovation, potential market size and social impact.

“Air Liquide’s participation in the Hello Tomorrow Summit right from the beginning is in line with our open innovation approach. On the one hand, it gives us a detailed understanding of how the world is changing through immersing ourselves in deep-tech issues,” says Olivier Delabroy, VP  Digital Transformation at Air Liquide. “And on the other hand, we have always put great emphasis on our relationships with startups, so this challenge engages us in a win-win, long-term dynamic that contributes to accelerating the Group’s digital transformation. We boost innovation while becoming more agile”.

*Deep-tech startups are those focusing on disruptive innovation, advanced technology and scientific breakthroughs. They rely on complex technology that requires a long R&D process.
