Air Liquide, a partner of the Hello Tomorrow Challenge 2016, awarded the “Air Quality” Prize to the White Lab start-up.

Air Liquide is a partner of the third edition of the Hello Tomorrow Challenge, an international contest for technology start-ups. Following several months of competition, the six semi-finalist start-ups in the Air Quality category – DFD, Sensichips, AirVisual, White Lab, TerraOak, and Citytree – took part in the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit held on October 13&14 in the CentQuatre premises, in Paris (France). The jury was made of representatives from the Air Liquide i-Lab, the Demeter Partners and ETF Partners investment funds, and the Hax accelerator. During their pitch, each start-up tried to convince the jury that their technology had the greatest potential and impact to address the effects of air pollution.

White Lab, the winner in the Air Quality category, was awarded a €15,000 prize by Olivier Delabroy, Founder of i-Lab and Digital transformation Vice-President of Air Liquide.

The English start-up White Lab developed Sensio Air, a technology to measure airborne allergens. The Sensio Air connected device measures and characterizes airborne particles allowing people with asthma and allergies to take the appropriate actions and improve their quality of life.

The Hello Tomorrow challenge is open to young researchers and entrepreneur from around the world. It aims to promote projects that combine both science and technology, within 10 industrial categories: Aeronautics, Food & Agriculture, Beauty & Well-being, Data & A.I., Water & Waste, Energy, Air Quality, Industry 4.0, Healthcare, Transportation & Mobility. Air Liquide is the sponsor of the Air Quality category, which was created in 2016.

All along the competition, the Air Liquide teams were fully involved into the Hello Tomorrow challenge. Group employees assessed the 40 pre-selected start-ups based on criteria such as the technological innovation submitted, the potential of the target market, the societal impact and the team’s profile.

Air Liquide’s participation to the Hello Tomorrow challenge is in line with the open innovation approach of the Group. With this challenge, Air Liquide can identify disruptive technologies, as well as potential collaborations within the global innovation ecosystem.

During the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit, Air Liquide’s i-Lab presented “Act For Air”, its collaborative innovation platform dedicated to the improvement of urban air quality. The i-Lab has launched several air quality initiatives since 2014 through the “Breathe in the City” project. This collaborative innovation platform –– aims to rally all stakeholders (industrial players, public authorities, start-ups, scientists, lecturers-researchers) to encourage them to take action, help bring forth new initiatives and innovation projects, as well as enable other stakeholders to meet and work together on a project.
