On June 16, 2014, three start-ups, AirBoxLab, Air Serenity, and NaturalGrass, join in the new “Breathe in the City” incubator created by Paris Région Lab and Air Liquide’s i-Lab.
This selection follows the call for projects launched in January, 2014, to identify innovative start-ups focused on developing products, services, and technologies dedicated to air quality in the city. These 3 start-ups were selected in April, 2014, by a committee gathering representatives of Air Liquide, Paris Région Lab, Ville de Paris, and Bpifrance. Of all applicants, AirBoxLab, Air Serenity, and NaturalGrass were selected for their innovative approach in terms of technologies and applications.
These start-ups will be hosted in the Paris Région Innovation Nord Express facilities, located in the 18th arrondissement in Paris. They will be able to rely on the Paris Région Lab know-how and the Air Liquide Group’s experts skills in managing both oxygen applications and projects and business development.
With its “Breathe in the City” initiative, Air Liquide’s i-Lab aims to develop new offers by joining forces with these start-ups, in order to meet the many air quality challenges: cutting down the emission of pollutant gases, supporting people suffering from respiratory conditions, providing pure air in mobility, measurements, air quality mapping and processing…
Air Liquide’s i-Lab also gets the opportunity to strengthen its relations with start-ups, to spot breakthrough technologies, and to set up new partnerships.
Olivier Delabroy, Vice President R&D at Air Liquide, stated: “We are delighted to welcome these 3 start-ups in this new incubator, which enables us to strengthen our relations with the innovation ecosystem of Paris. The “Breathe in the City” incubator is fully in line with Air Liquide’s “open innovation” approach.”
Jean-François Galloüin, Paris Région Lab Managing Director, commented: “As an active contributor to public life, Paris Région Lab is very proud of the opening of the new incubation program dedicated to a major issue, namely the quality of the air we all breathe. The selected start-ups will benefit from an ideal environment to speed up the development of their innovative solutions in this area, thanks to closer relations with both Air Liquide and the innovation ecosystem of Paris Région Lab.”

The related application, available on smartphones and tablets, provides a constant readout of the results, as well as an interpretation, counseling, and customized predictive management interface. www.airboxlab.com
AirSerenity has developed an innovative technology to process indoor air. The patented solution enables to suppress all pollutants from indoor air (VOC, particles, microorganisms…) without generating secondary pollutants. It also provides airflow monitoring through pollution sensors and real-time follow-up of indoor air quality through a smartphone application. http://www.air-serenity.com/
NaturalGrass, specialized in the development of vegetated surfaces in urban areas, designed a solution to revegetate urban roofs and walls with the use of a patented ultra-light substrate. This solution enables to grow profuse vegetation, thus contributing to a greener city and a more breathable air. http://www.naturalgrass.com/
